Ko wai mātou?

Family Start is a voluntary programme that involves regular home visits with whānau.

Whānau can enter the programme when māmā is hapū or has a pēpi up to 2 years of age.

We work with whānau who are in need of extra support and provide tools that help māmā and the wider whānau build capacity and confidence.

Our Family Start programme focuses on giving tamariki the best possible start in life.

What does the programme provide?

Family Start supports parents and caregivers through:

  • Parenting education on tamariki development

  • Support, advocacy and encouragement to help whānau achieve their goals

  • Guidance in areas such as health, welfare and education

  • A strong focus on ensuring the needs of tamariki always come first

Our Family Start aspirations

For our tamariki and mokopuna:

  • Meeting development milestones and health checks

  • Improved health outcomes

  • Living in environments that support their overall health and wellbeing

For our parents and caregivers:

  • Tools and skills to support whānau development
