Ko wai mātou?

Te Hokingamai Raki supports tāne who are preparing to return home from prison or who have recently reintegrated into their communities. We work with participants and their whānau to strengthen identity, belonging, and stability through a Te Ao Māori lens.

Our team creates culturally safe spaces, listens to each person’s story, and co‑designs personalised plans that reflect their values, strengths, and aspirations. We walk alongside whānau to rebuild confidence, remove barriers, and reconnect them with culture, opportunity, and long term wellbeing.

How it works

  1. Whakawhanaungatanga
We meet kanohi ki te kanohi where possible, listen first, and understand the person’s story, strengths, and needs.

  2. Plan That Fits
Together we co‑design a practical plan that reflects cultural values and sets clear, achievable steps.

  3. Wraparound Support
We coordinate services and stay connected with regular check ins so progress stays on track.

  4. Hokinga Ora
We celebrate milestones and strengthen links to whānau, hapū, iwi, and community.

What support can include

  • Cultural reconnection
Access to tikanga, kapa haka, te reo, and links to marae and kaumātua.

  • Whānau navigation
Mediation, goal setting, and support to strengthen relationships at home.

  • Health and wellbeing
Connections to primary health, addiction services, and counselling.

  • Education and employment
Help with licences, training, CVs, job readiness, and employer links.

  • Housing and practical needs
Support with accommodation pathways, ID, banking, and entitlements.

  • Justice and system navigation
Guidance for parole conditions, appointments, and community obligations.

All services are provided without judgment and in partnership with the person and their whānau.

Why it works

  • Identity first
When culture and belonging are strengthened, confidence grows and change lasts.

  • Whānau at the centre
Progress is sustained when support includes the people who matter most.

  • Practical steps
Clear goals and consistent follow up turn intent into action.
