What is Housing First?

Housing First offers people experiencing homelessness immediate access to housing, with no readiness requirements (such as sobriety or programme completion). Once housed, whānau are supported with holistic, person-centred services so they can sustain their tenancy and thrive.

Key features

  • Permanent, safe housing as the first step

  • No prerequisites to be housed

  • Wrap-around, culturally grounded support

  • Focus on dignity, choice, and long-term wellbeing

How does it work?

  1. Referral – We receive a referral from you, a whānau member, or a community partner.

  2. Engagement & Assessment – Our kaimahi connect with you to understand your goals, needs, and what support will help you feel safe and settled.

  3. Finding a Home – We work alongside you to secure safe, permanent housing in the community.

  4. Moving In – We help with tenancy setup, essential household items, and getting your new whare comfortable.

  5. Ongoing Support – You receive long-term, wrap-around support based on your goals, including health and wellbeing, advocacy, life skills, and strengthening whānau connections.

Who we support

Housing First is for people and whānau who have experienced long-term homelessness or significant housing insecurity. We walk alongside individuals who may be facing challenges such as health concerns, financial hardship, mental distress, or disconnection from services.

Our approach is mana-enhancing, ensuring people are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

If you or someone you know needs support with housing, we’re here to help.
